Toastmasters Club

Updated on June 18, 2008

Since its inception in 1962, The Nashua-Hudson Toastmasters in New Hampshire, a club of the District 45 Toastmasters has helped hundreds of men and women from different walks of life to become more confident in front of an audience. Our club provides a mutually supporting and positive learning environment in which you can thrive. Our members are teachers, writers, engineers, nurse practitioners and social entrepreneurs and use the communication and leadership skills that they acquire at Toastmasters in their place of work, at home and in the community. The mission of our club is to provide a mutually supportive and positive learning environment in which every member has the opportunity to develop communication and leadership skills, which in turn foster self-confidence and personal growth.

Visit Our Club today

The Nashua Hudson Toastmasters Club meets on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of every month at the Nashua Public Library, Nashua, NH from 6:30 to 8:30 PM. See the contact page for more information. For membership information, please see our membership information page.

Head of The Class

On June 11, members of the Nashua-Hudson Toastmasters Club held a demonstration meeting for students at Rivier College. Rivier faculty member and former Toastmaster, Karen Hvizda wanted to expose students in her “Effective Presentations” course to Toastmasters’ award-winning approach to solid and steady improvement in public speaking. She contacted the N-HTM club for assistance.

At Karen’s invitation, nine members of the club held a meeting during class time. Michael Truesdell was Toastmaster. Speakers included Chuck Blessing, Bill Grady and Dawn Richards. Other participants were Susan Mahoney, Bill Choquette, Carey Loukidas, Jack Wimme and Deb Westwood. Students from the class were recruited for the roles of Speaker, Timer, Quiz Master, Grammarian, and to answer Table Topics questions. During the 6-week long “Effective Presentations” course, Rivier students learn how to prepare and deliver business presentations.

“What better place to continue developing one’s presentation skills than Toastmasters, with welcoming, caring professionals willing to provide sensitive feedback” said Karen Hvizda.

Support New Members - Be a Mentor

We have had several new members join recently and we are in need of new mentors. The goal of a mentor is to create a relationship and an environment that makes it easier for the new member to identify their specific goals and/or focus, happily blend in and joyfully grow at their pace, build confidence as they stretch and flourish, immediately feel like a valued and respected member, and discover more about themselves and our club.

You do not need to complete your 1st manual to qualify as a mentor. Being a mentor is a wonderful way to enhance your experience as a Toastmaster. Please contact CoachCarew@aol.com

Moment of Truth!

"The profound effect Toastmasters has had in my life has touched me deeply -personally, professionally and spiritually. Toastmasters continues to shape my life and for that I am eternally grateful", "Today when I am asked, if N-HTM adds value to my life, I reply, “you bet it does, do you have a few minutes for me to tell you how?”, "Toastmaster is a wonderful group to which to belong. No, I don't have a grand success story - it still takes me a lot of courage to get up there and speak. But the people and the structure is so supportive that I am glad I joined. I look forward to many more enriching moments.", "I realized that at each meeting, I got a "piece" of each member and, in return, I gave a "piece" of me." -- These are some responses that I received alongwith a some very well-written heartfelt essays. It gives me great pleasure to announce the winner of the 'Thank You to Toastmaster' prize to Richard Berman. You can read his essay here.

Now in 2008, We asked you to reflect on what is working and what we need to work on with our club. For those who have filled out the "Moments of Truth" survey, Thank You!. For others who have not yet filled out the survey, we would greatly appreciate it if you could take a few “moments” to fill out the “Moments of Truth” survey and return it to the club either by email to our club president or bring it to the next meeting and place in the Moments of Truth survey box on the greeting table. We really want to hear from each one of you!
